Until very recently, it remained unknown whether a single tile could tile the plane only non-periodically. In 2023, amateur mathematician David Smith discovered the first beautiful example of such a tile, generating significant excitement both within mathematics and in the wider public.
Prof. Lamb will unravel this fascinating story of tilings, symmetry, and aperiodicity, bringing together mathematics and creativity in an engaging and accessible talk.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to interact with an internationally acclaimed scholar and explore one of the most intriguing discoveries of recent mathematics!
