The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature is organising an academic sitting for a conversation with Muhammad Din Jauhar on his recent book Nibrās-i-Naẑar (Daur-i-Hazir ke Masā’il aur Unkī Mazhabī Tafhīm). The session will explore the central themes of the book, which brings together a selection of Jauhar’s writings. His essays critically engage with modernity and Western civilisation, examining them within an intellectual framework. The discussion further highlights how modernity, colonialism, and Orientalism have shaped contemporary religious interpretations.
The book also includes important reflections on education, situating modern educational practices within their proper conceptual context. In its literary essays, Jauhar emphasises reconnecting with civilisational and traditional poetics, shedding light on their relevance within our cultural and intellectual landscape.
Muhammad Din Jauhar is currently associated with a private educational institution in Lahore, where he serves as Academic Coordinator. He has contributed regularly to English-language journalism, with his articles published in Daily Viewpoint (Lahore), Dawn (Karachi), and he has also worked with The Nation (Lahore). Jauhar studied English Literature at Punjab University. His areas of intellectual interest include modern Western thought, Islamic civilisation and its literary traditions, and the impact of modernity, colonialism, and Orientalism on religious interpretations. He also writes on education, Muslim social structures, and broader cultural questions.
